Recommend a Purchase

※Funding

The annual funding for books, journals and databases is from the following equation: (MOE subsidies + Tuition Fee - Student scholarship)*3%. The top priority of this funding is to make subscriptions for “All faculties’ resources”. After making the payments above, the rest of funding will be allocated to each departments to purchase professional journals, databases and books. The library also gets some allocation from this funding to purchase general resources.

※How to make purchase request

Academic departments’ purchase request: According to the University’s equipment expense rules and Library’s order schedule, each faculty contact person makes purchase requests for professional books via the Recommend A Book system .
Purchase request for general collection: Faculty members, students and staff can recommend books about leisure fictions or non-fictions. Depanding on the amount of the annual funding, Library will make purchase per month. To recommend the professional resources, please refer to the contact person of each department .
Books for research projects: All books purchased by research projects are treated as the University property. Before applying the expense forms for research projects to the Accounting Office, staff is required to submit “Property Increase Form” and “Books purchase list for projects” to the Acquisition and Cataloging Division of the Library.

※Processes

The Library makes the book purchases under the Government Procurement Act. Librarians need to check the duplicates firstly and inquiry the prices before recommended books ordered to the vendor. After the collection arrives, the staff will do book processing and cataloging. Normally, it takes around 2-3 months for western books and 2-4 weeks for Chinese books.  People who make purchase requests to the Library can get the newly processing information (ordering, processing, and cataloging) from the Library online catalog.  Once the books from individual’s purchase request arrive, the staff will reserve the item for the recommender.  When they are ready for checking out, our system will send an email notice to the client.
If you need to refer books which are under cataloging and no other reservation on them, you can fill out “Rush Cataloging Ruquest form” from the service desk. Librarians will accelerate their cataloging in 3 days and make reservation of the items for your account. You will be noticed via email when the collection is available.
